| The Feast
of Agios Dionysios Two major festivals are celebrated in honour of Agios Dionysios, Saint Patron of Zante. On the 24th of August a first festival is held in memory of the transportation of the Saint’s body from the monastery of Strofadia to the church of Agios Dionysios. The second festival is celebrated on the 17th of December and commemorated the date of the death of the saint. Those festivals are lasting three days during which various religious ceremonies are held, followed by traditional dances and music which are accompanied by local food and wine; Thousands of people and pilgrims from all over the island and from other parts of Greece are participating to those feasts.
